Seil 18

Description

The Seil 18 is a charming, versatile sail-and-oar boat designed by French naval architect François Vivier — originally in 1988 for a group of Nantes sailors who wanted a stable, family-friendly dinghy suited to rivers like the Loire, but equally capable on sheltered coastal waters or even light chop. It's a large pram (Scandinavian-style with a small fore transom for easy beaching and loading), built primarily in glued plywood (9mm planks — very straightforward with minimal twist), weighing around 220 kg (485 lbs) unrigged, and 270 kg (595 lbs) rigged with oars. This makes it lightweight enough to trailer easily, launch solo or with help, and handle without a big tow vehicle
