Seaward 24 Cruiser
Description
The Seaward 24 Cruiser is an American trailerable sailboat designed by Nick Hake as a compact pocket cruiser, suitable for solo, couple, or small family use on small lakes, bays, or protected coastal waters. Introduced in 1986 by Seaward Yachts (Hake Yachts) in Florida during the trailerable sailboat resurgence, it was Hake's evolution of his earlier designs like the Seaward 23, targeting beginners and recreational sailors with its lightweight, easy-to-launch construction and centerboard for shallow drafts. Production was low volume (estimated <100 units), ending in the late 1980s as Hake shifted to larger models. The design features a fiberglass monohull with a centerboard keel and transom-hung rudder for stable, responsive handling, a narrow beam for easy trailering, and a fractional sloop rig for light-air performance and simplicity, with a low displacement/length ratio for quick acceleration and a moderate ballast ratio for stiffness in gusts, though its low righting moment limits it to calm conditions.
