Searunner 34
Description
The Searunner 34 is a classic plywood (or plywood/fiberglass composite) trimaran sailboat, part of the renowned Searunner series designed by Jim Brown (with later contributions and refinements from John Marples). Introduced in the 1970s–1980s, it's one of the most popular home-built cruising trimarans ever, with hundreds constructed worldwide (often from plans or kits). The design emphasizes affordability, seaworthiness, safety, and bluewater capability—many have completed circumnavigations or long offshore passages. It's known for its distinctive "cross-arm" akas (beams), folding or demountable outriggers for trailering/storage, and a stable, fast platform for its era. The series (including 25', 31', 34', 37', and 40') was groundbreaking for amateur builders, using wood strip-plank or plywood construction for strength and ease of repair. The 34' model strikes a balance between size, performance, and interior space—suitable for coastal cruising, extended voyages, or liveaboard use by 2–4 people.
