Bell Seamew 22
Description
The Seamew 22 (also known as the Bell Seamew) is a classic British trailer yacht designed by Ian Proctor in 1963 as a larger sister to his earlier Seagull 18. Commissioned by Bell Woodworking Ltd. of Leicester, UK, the boat was offered primarily as a marine plywood kit for amateur builders, with some factory-completed examples also produced; roughly 150 Seamew 22s were built in total, with a few exported to the USA. It features a simple hard-chine lapstrake plywood hull with a retractable bulbed swing keel, a masthead sloop rig, and practical accommodations for 3–4 berths, a small galley, and space for a sea toilet, making it well-suited for family coastal cruising, estuary sailing, and weekend outings with its trailerable design and option for a small inboard engine.
