Seagull 19
Description
The Seagull 18 represents Ian Proctor's masterful approach to small boat design, combining 18.5-foot LOA with versatile keel/centerboard configuration and 215 ft² of well-proportioned sail area. Built by Bell Woodworking starting in 1956, approximately 400 units were produced as both kits and completed boats. The plywood hard chine construction provides excellent stability and spray deflection, while the 1.42-3.75-foot draft range offers remarkable versatility. With a 24.39 sail area to displacement ratio and 5.57-knot hull speed, this design delivers genuine sailing performance in a seaworthy, affordable package that remains relevant for coastal cruising, day sailing, and club racing nearly seven decades after its introduction.
