Description
The Seafarer 31 Newport Yawl (also known as the Seafarer 31 MKI Yawl) is a classic American offshore cruiser-racer sailboat designed by William H. Tripp Jr. and built by Seafarer Yachts in Huntington, New York, USA. Produced from 1968 to 1974 (with an estimated 50+ total MKI hulls, though yawl rigs were rarer, comprising perhaps a dozen), it features a fiberglass hull with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder, raked stem, and transom stern, prioritizing speed, balance, and seaworthiness through the yawl configuration's reduced weather helm in heavy conditions. This masthead yawl offers a compact teak-trimmed interior sleeping 4–5 (V-berth forward, saloon settees, galley, and head), suited for couples on coastal or moderate bluewater legs. Renowned for responsive reaching, stiff motion in chop (moderate SA/D and D/L), and forgiving handling, it performs well in 10–20 knots but rolls in following swells due to the narrow beam.
