Seafarer 31 - 2
Description
The Seafarer 31 MK II, built by Seafarer Yachts in Huntington, New York, from 1971 to 1974, is a refined version of the original Seafarer 31 (1968–1974), designed by McCurdy & Rhodes as a fiberglass cruising sloop (with a yawl option) that enhances interior comfort and sailing efficiency for coastal and offshore adventures, with approximately ~100 of the ~200 total Seafarer 31 units being the MK II variant. Measuring 31 feet LOA, with a 9-foot-10-inch beam, 4-foot-6-inch draft, and 8,500-pound displacement (3,500-pound lead ballast), it features a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder, 450 ft² sail area (SA/D ~16.5), and a 41% ballast ratio, delivering a comfort ratio of ~25 for a stable, dry ride at 5.5–6.5 knots (hull speed ~6.8 knots), ideal for PHRF racing (~200–220) or family cruising in the Great Lakes or Atlantic. Upgrades over the MK I include a roomier saloon with a fold-down table, improved galley (sink, stove), enclosed head, and teak interior enhancements, accommodating 4–5 berths (V-berth, settees, quarter berth).
