Seafarer 30
Description
The Seafarer 30 (also known as the Seafarer Swiftsure 30) is a classic American cruiser-racer sailboat designed by McCurdy & Rhodes and built by Seafarer Yachts in Huntington, New York, USA. Introduced in 1978 and produced until 1985 (with approximately 50–60 examples constructed), it features a fiberglass hull with balsa-cored deck and coachroof, a skeg-hung rudder for protected steering, raked spooned stem, and reverse transom for a balanced, seaworthy profile. This masthead sloop emphasizes responsive performance in moderate winds (high SA/D for light-air acceleration) and comfortable coastal cruising, with a spacious interior sleeping 5–6 (V-berth forward, convertible U-shaped settee to double in the saloon, quarter berth aft, port head with sink, and starboard galley with two-burner stove, oven, and icebox). The design offers versatility via a fixed fin keel or optional keel/centerboard (CB) for shallower drafts, making it suitable for gunkholing or club racing (PHRF ~192). Known for its stiff, sea-kindly motion and solid construction, it's forgiving for intermediate sailors but may require updates for rigging, deck cores, and the original Atomic 4 gas engine (commonly repowered to diesel like Yanmar). Not to be confused with the earlier imported Tripp 30 (1960s, different designer).
