Seafarer 23
Description
The Seafarer 23 is an American trailerable coastal cruiser designed by McCurdy & Rhodes and built by Seafarer Yachts in Huntington, New York, USA. Introduced in 1976 with limited production (exact numbers scarce, estimated <50 hulls), it features a fiberglass hull with fin keel (or optional shoal draft at 2'4"), skeg-hung rudder, raked stem, and transom stern, prioritizing simplicity, seaworthiness, and ease of trailering for weekend sailors. This masthead sloop offers a compact teak-trimmed interior sleeping 4 (V-berth forward, saloon settees, portable head), with a focus on light-air performance via an over rigged sail plan and substantial displacement for a smooth, sea-kindly motion in chop. Variants include the Kestrel daysailer (open cockpit, minimal cabin) and later Challenger (1978–1984, refined hull for better pointing).
