Sea Mite

Sea Mite

Description

Sea Mite is a vintage 10-foot (3.05 m) plywood sailboat/rowing dinghy, often described as an inverted-V hull design (sometimes referred to as a catamaran-style or V-bottom skiff in plan descriptions). Designer is unknown (stock plans from mid-20th century magazines), with plans historically published in Pacific Motor Boat magazine and later made available as free downloads on sites archiving old Science and Mechanics / Boat Builder Handbook plans. It was intended as a simple, affordable amateur build for daysailing, rowing, or small outboard power—suitable for kids, beginners, or as a tender. Construction is straightforward plywood (likely sheet plywood with an inverted V-bottom that eliminates the need for a centerboard in some interpretations, relying on hull shape for stability and lateral resistance). The rig is a single mainsail (cat rig), with reported sail area around 57 ft². Features include a transom bow/stern configuration, making it compact and lightweight for easy car-topping or garage storage. It can sail, row, or take a small outboard, emphasizing versatility over performance.
