Scout
Description
The Scout (full name often Herreshoff Scout or Herreshoff Scout Cat Ketch) is a classic small daysailer/camp cruiser designed by Halsey Herreshoff (Halsey Chase Herreshoff, born 1933), the naval architect, sailor, and former president of the Herreshoff Marine Museum. He's a grandson of the legendary Nathanael G. Herreshoff (NGH/"Captain Nat") and carried forward the family legacy with practical, efficient designs. This 18-footer dates to around 1974–1979 (earliest builds ~1974, design credited 1979 in some records), part of a "five-in-one" hull family Halsey created: the same basic hull form adapted for variants like the America Catboat, Eagle, Scout (cat ketch version), Harbor Pilot, and Yacht Club Launch. The Scout emphasizes simplicity, shallow draft, and versatile sailing—great for daysailing, family outings, light camping, or gunkholing in protected waters/bays.
