Scorpion

Scorpion

Description

The Scorpion board boat with lateen sail refers to a small, lightweight lateen-rigged sailboat often called the Scorpion (a common name for various Sunfish-like clones or copy designs from the 1970s–1980s, particularly in the US). It's essentially a Sunfish clone or variant: a minimalist, one-person (or small two-person) board-style dinghy with a simple lateen rig (triangular sail on a yard and boom, easy to rig/derig). These were produced by companies like Pargo (originally from Columbia Car Co./Columbia County, GA, later linked to golf cart makers like Ruddick/Textron/E-Z-GO), and sometimes sold as recreational or entry-level boats. Some were marketed as "Scorpion" models, with hulls around 13–14 ft, very light (often ~100–150 lbs), and designed for easy trailering, beaching, and casual sailing on lakes/inland waters.
