Schock 50

Schock 50

Description

The Schock 50 is a high-performance racing sailboat designed by Bruce Marek (of Nelson/Marek fame) and built by W.D. Schock Corp. in California. It dates to around the late 1990s/early 2000s era, reviewed in 2000 by naval architect Robert H. Perry as an "ultimate, single-handed racing weapon" optimized for raw speed in singlehanded offshore events. This was a specialized, no-compromise racer emphasizing light displacement, narrow beam for low wetted surface, deep draft, and water ballast for adjustable performance. It wasn't a large production run—likely a one-off or very limited custom build in the grand prix/singlehanded racing vein, similar to other Schock/Marek collaborations (like the Schock 55, which was a Nelson Marek 55 with molds acquired by Schock).
