Santana 28 Sloop
Description
The Santana 28 is an American sailboat designed by W. Shad Turner as a comfortable cruiser for coastal and lake sailing, featuring a fiberglass monohull with a fin keel and spade rudder for responsive handling and stability. It employs a masthead sloop rig with a raked stem, nearly plumb transom, and tiller steering, offering a spacious interior for weekend overnights while maintaining moderate performance in 10–20 knot winds. The design prioritizes ease of use and seaworthiness, with a comfort ratio suitable for family cruising. Introduced in 1976 by W.D. Schock Corp in the United States, the Santana 28 was built until 1978, with 40 units produced. It was developed as an evolution of smaller Santana models, focusing on increased beam and interior volume for better accommodations. After two years, it was replaced by the Santana 228, which shared the same hull but featured a taller rig with 8% more sail area and a streamlined wedge-shaped coachroof.
