Santana 27

Description

The Santana 27 is an American sailboat designed by Gary Mull as a versatile racer-cruiser, ideal for club racing and coastal day sailing with basic overnight accommodations. It features a fiberglass monohull with a fin keel and spade rudder for responsive handling and upwind performance, a masthead sloop rig for simplicity, and a moderate beam providing stability in 10–20 knot winds. The design emphasizes a high ballast ratio for stiffness in gusts, a low displacement/length for quick acceleration, and a compact interior suitable for small crews or families. Introduced in 1967 by W.D. Schock Corp in the United States, the Santana 27 was Mull's early contribution to the emerging fiberglass performance boat market, predating the full IOR era but influencing it with its balanced hull shape. Production ran until 1974, with 210 units built, reflecting the era's demand for affordable racers that doubled as weekenders.
