Santana 228
Description
The Santana 228 is an American sailboat designed by W. Shad Turner as a performance cruiser, succeeding the Santana 28 with enhancements for better light-air performance and aerodynamics. It shares the same hull as the Santana 28 but features a taller rig (8% more sail area), a streamlined wedge-shaped coachroof for improved headroom and flow, and minor deck refinements. This fiberglass monohull with a fin keel and spade rudder offers responsive handling, stability in moderate winds, and ample interior space for weekend coastal or lake cruising. Introduced in 1978 by W.D. Schock Corp in the United States, the Santana 228 was built until 1980, with 47 units produced. It addressed owner feedback on the Santana 28 by adding sail-carrying power and a more modern cabin profile, targeting families and club sailors during the late 1970s shift toward comfortable racers.
