Sandpiper 8'
Description
The Sandpiper 8 by Devlin Designing Boat Builders (designed by Sam Devlin) is a lightweight, versatile 8-foot rowing and sailing dinghy. It's specifically crafted as a day sailer, yacht tender, or utility boat, emphasizing ease of handling, good carrying capacity, and multi-purpose use (rowing primary, with optional sailing or small outboard). This design is plywood-based (stitch-and-glue construction), intended for amateur builders—plans estimate about 75 hours to complete. It's available directly from Devlin's site in study and construction plan formats (digital or printed), and it's part of their extensive catalog of small boats. Unlike the mass-produced ABS plastic Sandpiper 8 (from Bass Hunter/Direct Boats, now discontinued), the Devlin version is a custom-build plywood design with similar overall concept but different construction and potentially refined performance characteristics.
