Sand Dollar Skiff

Sand Dollar Skiff

Description

The Sand Dollar is a lightweight, beginner-friendly wooden daysailer and tender designed by Arch Davis (of Arch Davis Designs), intended primarily for novice woodworkers and first-time builders with no prior experience; it features a flat-bottomed hull with lapstrake (clinker) plywood sides for easy glued construction using stitch-and-glue or epoxy methods, offering excellent rowing performance with dual stations (center for solo, bow for tandem), good handling under sail for daysailing or light exploration, and optional small outboard compatibility, all in a portable, trailerable package emphasizing simplicity, versatility, and charm over high performance. Plans are sold directly by the designer for owner-building, with no large-scale factory production; as a home-build design, the quantity built is low and scattered (dozens to perhaps low hundreds worldwide based on enthusiast reports and magazine features like Small Boats Monthly and Epoxyworks), many completed as personal projects or small-shop efforts.
