Description
The Samson C-Smoke Ketch is a classic ferro-cement (ferrocement) cruising ketch from the Samson Marine Design series, produced in the 1970s–1980s era when ferro boats were popular among amateur and custom builders for their low cost, strength, and fire resistance. Samson Marine (a Canadian company founded by John Samson) offered plans for a range of ferro designs, and the C-Smoke (sometimes listed as C-Smoke or similar to Sea Smoke variants) is a 40-foot model in that lineup—known for solid offshore potential, roomy interiors, and traditional lines. Ferro-cement construction involves a steel armature (rebar/mesh) plastered with cement mortar, creating a tough, monocoque hull that's relatively inexpensive to build but requires skilled plastering to avoid issues like cracking or osmosis. Many Samson boats (including C-Deuce, C-Breeze, C-Mist, C-Shrike, etc.) were owner-built or professionally finished from kits/hulls, often for blue water cruising or liveaboard use. The C-Smoke is relatively rare but praised in ferro communities for durability and spaciousness.
