Sailmaster 22
Description
The Sailmaster 22 is a classic Dutch American trailerable cruiser and daysailer designed by the renowned firm Sparkman & Stephens (S&S design #1743) and first built in 1963. Initially produced in the Netherlands by yards like Werf Gusto in Schiedam and De Vries Lentsch in Amsterdam, it was imported to the US by Seafarer Fiberglass Yachts of New York City, and later by Sailmaster of Annapolis, Maryland. Production shifted to Seafarer Yachts in Huntington, New York (in a repurposed supermarket) around 1965, continuing until the early 1970s, with fewer than 100 units built overall. The design originated as S&S #1631 for Seafarer in 1960 and evolved into the Seafarer 23 Kestrel in 1963. Known for its full-keel stability, centerboard versatility, and traditional lines, it's suited for coastal cruising, daysailing, and light racing on lakes or bays. Variants include the Sailmaster 22D (Daysailer, larger cockpit/smaller cabin) and 22W (Weekender, smaller cockpit/larger cabin).
