Sabre 425
Description
The Sabre 425 is a pinnacle of Sabre Yachts' sailboat lineup, designed by Roger Hewson as an evolution of the Sabre 42, emphasizing offshore capability, luxurious comfort, and balanced performance for serious cruisers. Built in Wiscasset, Maine, USA, from 1990 to 1995, it features a moderate-displacement hull with a fine entry for efficient upwind sailing (PHRF ~90–102) and a high ballast ratio (~35%) for stability in heavy weather, while the generous sail plan (SA/D ~16.5) excels in light air. Available as a masthead sloop (standard) or optional cutter/ketch rig, with deep fin keel (6'5") or shoal-draft wing (4'11"), it's renowned for its hand-laid fiberglass construction (vinylester resin for blister resistance), skeg-hung rudder, and expansive teak interiors that sleep 7. The design prioritizes long passages, with a dry ride and easy handling for couples or small crews. Only 29 hulls were produced (hulls #063–091), making it a rare, high-end classic before Sabre shifted to the 426 in 2003. As of January 2026, these yachts are collector's items, supported by Sabre's owner resources for parts and rendezvous.
