Sabre 34 Series I (HULL nos. 001-255)

Description

The Sabre 34 Series I, also known as the Mark I or Mk I, is the foundational production run of the esteemed Sabre 34, a timeless performance cruiser designed by the Sabre Yachts team (with strong Roger Hewson influence) and built in Wiscasset, Maine, USA. Launched in 1976, it set the standard for Sabre's blend of speed, seaworthiness, and luxurious comfort in a 34-footer, targeting coastal racers and family cruisers. The hull's moderate displacement and efficient lines deliver solid upwind pointing (PHRF ~132–144), while the high ballast ratio (~40%) provides stiffness in 20–30 knot conditions without excessive heel. Hand-laid fiberglass construction (solid below waterline), a skeg-hung rudder for protection, and optional shoal-draft keel make it versatile for East Coast bays or short offshore legs. The teak interior is renowned for its warmth and functionality, sleeping 6 comfortably. All 255 hulls were produced from 1976 to 1983, before the Series II (Mk II, hulls #256–~355, 1984–1989) introduced aft-cabin and Targa variants with minor hull tweaks (e.g., wider beam aft). As of January 2026, these classics remain highly sought-after for their overbuilt quality and value retention, with robust support from Sabre's owner communities.
