Sabre 32
Description
The Sabre 32 is a classic performance cruiser from Sabre Yachts in Maine, USA, designed as a versatile racer-cruiser with a focus on seaworthiness, spacious interiors, and balanced handling for coastal or short offshore passages. Built during the height of the IOR-influenced era, it evolved from the popular Sabre 30, offering increased beam and LWL for better stability and volume while maintaining a moderate displacement for speed (PHRF ~150–162). The design emphasizes hand-laid fiberglass construction, teak joinery, and a skeg-hung rudder for protected steering. A tri-cabin layout was available, providing privacy with an aft cabin alongside the standard V-berth and saloon setup. A keel/centerboard (CB) variant offered shoal draft (board up: ~3.92 ft / 1.19 m; down: ~6.75 ft / 2.06 m) for shallow-water cruising, though the standard fin keel is more common. Production spanned 1983–1987, with approximately 87 hulls built—making it a sought-after classic today. Designer credits go to the Sabre Yachts team under Roger Hewson's influence, prioritizing comfort (CR ~26) and capsize resistance (CSF 1.89).
