Rumba Escape
Description
The Escape Rumba (sometimes styled as Rumba Escape) is a versatile, family-friendly dinghy from the Escape Sailboat line, produced in the late 1990s–early 2000s by Escape Sailboats (a division of Dynamic Dollies, based in Rhode Island, USA). Designed for beginners to intermediate sailors, it emphasizes stability, ease of use, and portability with its innovative roll-up mainsail system—no boom, no messy sheets, just quick setup and reefing. At 12 ft 9 in (12.75 ft LOA), it's the largest and most powerful in the Escape family (above the Captiva 11.5 and Mambo 9), offering room for 3–4 adults or a family while delivering Laser-like speed in a forgiving package. Later rebranded as the Escape 12, it's praised for its wide-beam stability (3x less likely to capsize than traditional dinghies) and bright yellow hull for visibility. "The Rumba is no toy—it's roomy, stable, and fast enough to thrill without the terror." – Robert Perry, Sailing Magazine (1999)
