Roughwater 33
Description
The ROUGHWATER 33 is a 33-foot cruising sailboat designed by renowned naval architect Thomas Gillmer and built by Tao-Yuan Boatyard (also known as Chung Hwa Boat) in Taiwan from 1975 to 1985. This vessel represents a classic example of 1970s-1980s Taiwanese fiberglass construction, featuring a long keel with transom-hung rudder configuration and masthead sloop rigging. The boat was based on the ARIES 32 design and shares similarities with the WEATHERLY 32, displacing 15,000 pounds with 5,000 pounds of ballast for a 33.33% ballast-to-displacement ratio. Built for serious cruising, the ROUGHWATER 33 offers reassuring stability in all conditions with a generous sail plan that delivers excellent light-air performance. This capable coastal cruiser has the ability to handle longer passages comfortably, making it a popular choice among cruising sailors seeking a traditional, seaworthy vessel with proven offshore capabilities.
