Roberts Spray 36 Cutter Rigged
Description
The Bruce Roberts Spray 36, part of the iconic Centennial Spray series designed by Bruce Roberts-Goodson in the 1980s, is a heavy-displacement bluewater cruiser celebrated for its seaworthy long-keel hull, spacious accommodations, and versatility, with thousands of Sprays built worldwide inspiring this model for family coastal or offshore voyages. In its cutter-rigged configuration—featuring an inner forestay for a staysail—this Bermudan (or optional gaff) setup enhances heavy-weather handling and sail balance, delivering efficient performance in light to moderate winds while maintaining the design's hallmark stability and simplicity for DIY builders. Constructed primarily in round-bilge steel or wood-epoxy (with multi-chine steel/aluminum or fiberglass options), it offers multiple layouts like center cockpit, trunk cabin, aft cockpit pilothouse, or poop stern with pilot house, accommodating 4–6 berths in a roomy interior exceeding similar-sized boats, powered by a 20–33 hp diesel auxiliary, and with build costs typically $80,000–$150,000.
