Description
The Bruce Roberts PCF 40 (Pacific Coast Fisherman 40) is a robust, full-displacement pilothouse motor sailer designed by Bruce Roberts-Goodson in the 1980s, blending trawler-style seaworthiness with sailing capability for long-range coastal or ocean passages, fishing, or family cruising, with over 200 examples built worldwide in steel, aluminum, fiberglass, or wood-epoxy. Featuring a flush forward deck for dinghy storage and easy anchoring, it offers large fuel (up to 1,000+ gallons) and water capacities, a deep freezer space, and economical passage making at 7–8 knots under power or sail, rigged typically as a ketch or cutter for balanced handling in heavy weather; customizable interiors include two sleeping cabins, a shower/head, optional aft cabin, and a practical galley, powered by a 50–100 hp diesel inboard, making it a versatile workhorse for professional or recreational use with build costs around $150,000–$300,000.
