The Bruce Roberts Offshore 44 in its sloop-rigged setup—designed by Bruce Roberts-Goodson in the 1980s as part of the renowned Offshore series—is a heavy-displacement bluewater cruiser prized for its fast yet stable performance, ample storage, and DIY accessibility, with hundreds built worldwide for circumnavigations and family voyages. This single-mast Bermudan sloop variant offers simpler handling than the ketch or cutter options, with a tall rig for superior light-air drive and upwind pointing, complemented by a fin or long keel for tracking; favoring steel or aluminum multi-chine construction (fiberglass or wood-epoxy available), it includes aft or center cockpit choices, a generous interior for 6–8 berths with 6'4" headroom, full galley, nav station, and large tanks (200+ gal fuel/water), powered by a 33–60 hp diesel inboard, with build costs around $100,000–$200,000.ce.
