Roberts 434 A,B,C,D
Description
The Bruce Roberts 434, introduced in 2000 by Australian naval architect Bruce Roberts, is a heavy-displacement bluewater cruising sailboat celebrated for its robust construction, spacious liveaboard accommodations, and proven offshore capability, with hundreds built worldwide by owner-enthusiasts. Optimized for long-distance voyages or coastal exploration, it features a moderate fin keel (deep or shoal draft) with skeg-hung rudder for stability and tracking, and a center-cockpit layout for protected steering. Variants A (Sloop - Aft Cockpit), B (Cutter - Center Cockpit), C (Ketch -Pilot House or Center Cockpit), and D (Sloop - flush deck with raised aft cabin primarily differ in rig configuration (sloop, cutter, ketch) and deck styling (low-profile aft cockpit, center cockpit, pilothouse, or flush deck with raised aft cabin), allowing customization for short-handed sailing or family cruising. Built in multi-chine or radius-chine steel/aluminum (unsinkable, heavier), round-bilge fiberglass, or wood/epoxy (lighter, smoother), the 434 offers three cabins with 6 fixed berths, two heads (one en-suite), a U-galley, nav station, and ample storage for provisions—headroom exceeds 6'4" in the saloon. Proven in single-handed circumnavigations (e.g., 27,000 miles in 218 days), it sustains 9–10 knots with excellent directional stability, handling knockdowns and broaches with ease.
