Roberts 345 V/B
Description
The Bruce Roberts 345 Variant B (often abbreviated V/B) is a customized iteration of the popular 1980s bluewater cruiser, designed by Australian naval architect Bruce Roberts for owner-builders emphasizing enhanced interior volume and refined stern aesthetics. This version modifies the standard 345 by extending the coach house for greater headroom and saloon space (up to an additional 6–12 inches forward), reducing the transom rake for a more vertical, modern profile that improves cockpit shelter and boarding access, and repositioning the rudder-skeg further forward (trailing edge ~2–4 inches from transom) to optimize weight distribution and reduce vulnerability in groundings. These changes maintain the core seaworthiness—fin keel options, skeg protection, and heavy ballast for stability—while adding versatility for liveaboard use, with the same customizable accommodations (V-berth forward, U-galley, saloon settees, aft quarter berth sleeping 4–6 under 6'2" headroom). Like the base model, it's built in multi-chine steel/aluminum (rugged, ~17,000 lb displacement) or fiberglass/wood-epoxy (lighter, ~10,500 lb), with sloop, cutter, or ketch rigs.
