Description
The Bruce Roberts 19 is a compact, trailerable pocket cruiser designed in 1974 by naval architect Bruce Roberts-Goodson, offering detailed plans for affordable amateur construction in steel, aluminum, fiberglass, or wood epoxy, tailored for coastal day sails, weekend escapes, or introductory bluewater forays with solo sailors or small families seeking simplicity and seaworthiness. At 19 feet 3 inches LOA with a 7-foot 1-inch beam, shallow draft (centerboard up 10 inches, down 3 feet 7 inches), and light trailerable displacement around 1,850-1,883 pounds, its broad, flat-bottomed hull with twin keels provides buoyant stability in chop, while a generous fractional sloop rig (I=23.3 ft, J=8.3 ft, P=20.1 ft, E=8.0 ft) supports effective light-air performance up to moderate breezes, though it thrives best over 10 knots and may require motoring in calms due to a sail area/displacement ratio near 16. Belowdecks, the snug interior fits two comfortably in a forward V-berth and convertible saloon settees, augmented by a minimal galley and portable head, making it a forgiving starter boat that's easy to maintain and customize.
