Rob Roy 23

Rob Roy 23

Description

The Rob Roy 23 is a classic American trailerable pocket cruiser, inspired by the traditional canoe yawl style (echoing designs like the original Rob Roy canoe from the 19th century but scaled up for sailing). It was designed by renowned naval architect Edward S. (Ted) Brewer and built by Marine Concepts (based in Florida, run by Ron Johnson) starting in 1980, with production running into the early 2000s (around 85 hulls total; briefly revived in the late 1990s). It's out of production now but remains popular among owners for its simplicity, seaworthiness, and ease of trailering—ideal for solo or couple coastal cruising, gunkholing, or weekend/overnight adventures. The design prioritizes a narrow, elegant hull for low wetted surface and good performance in light-to-moderate winds, with a centerboard for shallow draft and trailering. It's a true "skinny" boat (narrow beam) that rewards skilled handling but offers surprising comfort for its size. Key Specifications
