Ranger 32 (3/4 Ton) Sloop Sailboat Profile The Ranger 32, commonly known as the Ranger 3/4 Ton, is a high-performance fiberglass racer/cruiser sloop designed by Gary Mull and built by Ranger Yachts in Costa Mesa, California, from 1973 to 1979. Exactly 147 units were produced, cementing its status as a benchmark IOR (International Offshore Rule) Three-Quarter Ton class yacht. Evolving from Mull's earlier successes like the Ranger 26 and 33, it was based on the prototype Swampfire, which dominated the 1974 3/4 Ton Cup in Miami—sweeping the regatta with superior upwind speed and stability. Targeted at competitive sailors, the Ranger 32 blended race-winning hull lines (fine entry, wide aft sections for planing) with basic cruising amenities, earning acclaim for its responsive helm and seaworthiness in coastal/offshore conditions. Though dated by modern standards, it remains a club racing staple, with owners upgrading for longevity and praising its "timeless Mull magic."
