Ranger 29
Description
The Ranger 29, designed by Gary Mull, is a classic fiberglass racer/cruiser sloop built by Ranger Yachts in Costa Mesa, California, from 1970 to 1975. Approximately 100 units were produced, positioning it as a sought-after West Coast performer from the IOR-era boom. Intended as a fast, roomy multi-purpose boat, it succeeded the Ranger 26 and preceded the larger 33, sharing Mull's signature sleek lines for speed while offering practical volume for coastal hops or club racing. With a spade rudder on a partial skeg for protection and balance, it earned a reputation for being fun, responsive, and seaworthy—ideal for sailors wanting a lively tiller-steered ride without sacrificing basic comforts. Early models featured a gas Atomic 4; many have been repowered with diesels for reliability.
