Ranger 26 -2
Description
The Ranger 26-2 is a lightweight, trailerable fiberglass racer/cruiser sloop designed by Gary Mull and built by Ranger Yachts (a division of Lear Siegler) in Costa Mesa, California, from 1980 to 1982. Only a very small number were produced—fewer than 50 based on historical records—making it one of the rarest in the Ranger lineup. As a complete redesign of the earlier fixed-keel Ranger 26 (also by Mull), the 26-2 introduced a lifting keel for shallow-water access and easier trailering, while retaining the fractional rig and performance-oriented hull for club racing and coastal day sails. Its high sail-area-to-displacement ratio emphasizes speed in light airs, appealing to West Coast racers seeking a nimble, no-frills alternative to bulkier 26-footers. Owners highlight its responsiveness and simplicity, though the limited production means parts sourcing requires creativity.
