Ranger 26
Description
The Ranger 26 is a lightweight, versatile fiberglass racer/cruiser sloop designed by Gary Mull and built by Ranger Yachts in Costa Mesa, California, from 1969 to 1975. Approximately 150 units were produced, establishing it as a West Coast staple during the fiberglass racing boom. Mull crafted it as a multi-purpose performer—nimble for club racing yet roomy enough for coastal day sails or overnights—balancing a saucer-shaped canoe hull for speed with practical features like a large cockpit and outboard power. Its high-aspect rig and flat aft sections enable planing downwind, while the swept fin keel and spade rudder deliver responsive handling. Owners cherish its simplicity and fun factor, though it's best suited for protected waters due to lightweight construction; many have upgraded for longevity, keeping it competitive in fleets today.
