Ranger 24 Tall Rig
Description
The Ranger 24 tall rig is a compact, trailerable fiberglass racer/cruiser designed by Raymond H. Richards and built by Ranger Fiberglass Boats in Kent, Washington, from 1974 to 1980. Approximately 84–86 units were produced, with the tall rig variant (introduced mid-production) offering increased sail area for superior light-air performance and upwind drive, distinguishing it from the standard rig model. Influenced by IOR Quarter Ton racing rules, it features a clipper bow, plumb transom, and lightweight construction for easy towing (under 3,500 lb total weight), targeting club fleets or coastal daysailing. The tall masthead sloop rig enhances versatility without altering the hull, making it a PNW favorite for its spirited handling and simplicity—owners note it's "athletic for a pocket cruiser" but tender in heavy weather, ideal for protected waters rather than bluewater passages.
