Ranger 24
Description
The Ranger 24 is a compact, trailerable fiberglass racer-cruiser sloop designed by Raymond H. Richards and built by Ranger Fiberglass Boats in Kent, Washington, from 1974 to 1980. Approximately 84–86 units were produced, targeting the International Offshore Rule (IOR) Quarter Ton class for competitive racing while offering basic cruising capabilities. Developed as a variant of Richards' Haida 26 for bluewater aspirations in a smaller package, it features a clipper bow, plumb transom, and lightweight construction for easy towing (under 3,500 lb total weight). Distinct from Gary Mull's Southern California Ranger line (e.g., 23/26), the Kent Ranger 24 gained a cult following in the Pacific Northwest for its spirited performance and simplicity, though it's noted as tender in heavy air—suited for coastal racing, daysailing, or short overnights rather than extended offshore voyages.
