Puffer

Puffer

Description

The Puffer is a versatile American sailing dinghy designed by Fred Scott and first built in 1972 by AMF Alcort, a division of American Machine and Foundry. This compact 12.5-foot vessel was designed as a multi-purpose boat capable of sailing, rowing, or motoring, making it an ideal entry-level craft for beginners and a fun recreational boat for experienced sailors. The company completed 5,000 examples of the Puffer design starting in 1972, but it is now out of production. Built with fiberglass construction featuring a double hull and molded seats, the boat incorporates practical design elements including positive foam flotation, hiking straps, and adjustable jib fairleads. The vessel's shallow draft capability—just 4 inches with the daggerboard retracted—allows for easy beaching and car-top transportation, while its transom-mounted motor bracket accommodates small outboard engines for auxiliary power.
