Privateer 35
Description
The Privateer 35 is a classic American bluewater cruising sailboat designed by renowned naval architect Thomas Gillmer and built by Kenner Boat Company from 1968 to 1972. This 41.42-foot masthead ketch represents Gillmer's philosophy of creating seaworthy, traditional cruising vessels capable of handling offshore passages. The boat features heavy fiberglass construction with a fin keel and rudder mounted on a skeg, prioritizing stability and seaworthiness over speed. With a displacement of 16,000 pounds and 6,250 pounds of lead ballast, it offers excellent stability and righting capability. While the production numbers remain unclear, the boat was manufactured during a relatively short four-year period, making it a distinctive example of late 1960s cruising yacht design. The vessel came equipped with a Universal Atomic 4 gasoline engine and featured modest fuel and water capacities typical of its era.
