Presto 30
Description
The Presto (most commonly referring to the Presto 30) is a modern trailerable sharpie-inspired coastal cruiser designed by renowned American naval architect Rodger Martin (Newport, RI), drawing direct inspiration from Commodore Ralph Munroe's legendary 1885 sharpie yacht Presto—a historic shallow-draft center boarder famed for speed, seaworthiness, and minimal draft. The Presto 30 was developed around 2009 as a cruising evolution of Martin's earlier Outward Bound/Hurricane Island 30 sharpie, built in limited numbers (approximately 9 hulls) by Union River Boat Company (Bucksport, Maine, successor to Ryder Boats) from 2009–2012 using advanced composite fiberglass construction with carbon fiber elements for lightness and strength; production ceased after that run due to economic factors and builder focus shifts, making surviving examples rare and sought-after among shallow-draft enthusiasts. Key features include a round-bilge sharpie hull for excellent shallow-water access (great for gunkholing, beaching, or trailer-sailing), twin unstayed carbon masts with wishbone booms carrying self-tending balanced-lug or similar sails (easy shorthanded operation, automatic depowering in gusts via mast bend), centerboard for variable draft, lightweight displacement for quick performance and easy trailering, simple interior with V-berth forward, settees convertible to berths (sleeps 2–4 modestly),
