Precision 27

Precision 27

Description

The Precision 27 is an American fiberglass cruising sailboat designed by naval architect Jim Taylor and built by Precision Boat Works (USA) starting in 1989, with production continuing into the 1990s (later evolving into the Precision 28 with a swim platform extension and similar features); it was one of the larger models in Precision's lineup of trailerable-to-midsize boats, emphasizing a balance of performance, comfort, and affordability for coastal or inland cruising, though not a high-volume seller compared to their smaller daysailers (exact quantity built is untracked but limited, as the inboard diesel, optional wheel steering, and higher specs challenged dealer networks for stocking and sales). Construction uses solid fiberglass hull with foam-cored deck, a fin keel with bulb and spade rudder for good upwind ability and tracking, fractional sloop rig for easy handling and lively performance, generous beam for stability and interior volume (sleeping up to 6 on settee berths plus V-berth), full headroom (about 6'1" in cabin), inboard auxiliary diesel (typically Universal M2-12 ~11 hp), self-bailing cockpit, and features like pressure water/shore power options—making it suitable for weekend/overnight family cruising with a dry, comfortable ride and solid build quality praised by owners.
