Description
The Plas Trend 32 (also known as PT-32) is a performance-oriented coastal cruiser designed by Britton Chance Jr. in collaboration with Andy Green and first built in 1973 by Plastrend Corporation (later known as Composite Technologies and then Island Yacht Corp.) in Fort Worth, Texas. This sailboat emerged as a direct response to revisions in the International Offshore Rule (IOR), conceived as a lengthened and modified version of the earlier PT-30 model to accommodate these rule changes. The design reflects the era's focus on competitive sailing and advanced composite construction, with Plastrend establishing a reputation for producing fast and tough sailing vessels through innovative use of composite materials. The company's manufacturing philosophy emphasized durable, high-performance construction, leveraging advanced composite technologies to position their boats at the forefront of modern boat building during the 1970s. The PT-32 features fiberglass construction with a fin keel and spade rudder configuration, rigged as a masthead sloop known for its robust and easily managed sail plan.
