Piper 24 (Rustler 24)
Description
The Piper 24 (also known as the Piper One-Design or simply Piper) is a classic British 24-foot keelboat designed for one-design racing and day sailing. It was created in 1965–1966 by renowned naval architect David Boyd (famous for the America's Cup challenger Sovereign in 1964) and built primarily in the UK. The design draws direct inspiration from Boyd's 12-meter Sovereign, scaled down to a mini version with elegant classic lines: long overhangs, graceful sheer, cutaway full keel, and attached rudder for solid, predictable handling — the opposite of modern lightweight planing racers. It's built for traditional, seaworthy performance in varied conditions, often described as sturdy, forgiving, and rewarding to sail. Built mainly by Robertson Yard (Scotland) — about 57 hulls completed or finished there.
