Periwinkle 17

Periwinkle 17

Description

The Periwinkle is a distinctive 17-foot camp-cruiser designed by Australian naval architect Ross Lillistone in 2008, representing one of his most sophisticated and versatile small boat designs. Originally commissioned by sailor John Shrapnel who needed a faster, more capable boat than his previous 9-foot and 10-foot craft, this elegant design emerged as a beautifully crafted cat-ketch with balanced lugsails or a gaff rigged sloop (plans include both options). The Periwinkle features a glued 9mm marine plywood lapstrake hull with five strakes, built on frames and bulkheads over a strongback. It incorporates hardwood gunwales, stem, and skeg, with very large and accessible flotation compartments—the rear compartment capable of huge gear stowage and accessed through a large midline hatch. The complete boat and sailing rig require approximately 600 hours to build.
