PDQ 32

PDQ 32

Description

The PDQ 32 is a compact, lightweight cruising catamaran designed by Alan Slater and built by PDQ Yachts Inc. (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) from 1994/1995 to around 2002–2003. It features fiberglass construction with vacuum-bagged Core-Cell foam core (plus triaxial cloth, AME 5000 epoxy resin, and carbon fiber in the main beam for strength and weight savings), twin mini-keels (no daggerboards), a masthead sloop rig, twin outboard auxiliary power (typically 2 × 9.9 hp Yanmar or similar), and a bridgedeck layout emphasizing bright, airy accommodations (two hull cabins plus salon, good headroom up to 6'11" in open areas, and protection in the cockpit). Intended as a performance-oriented yet comfortable pocket cruiser (a smaller sibling to the popular PDQ 36), it offers quick acceleration, good upwind ability (tacks through <90° in some reports), easy shorthanded sailing, and solid seaworthiness for coastal/bluewater use without excessive weight or cost. Production totaled 53 hulls over about eight years, now long out of production but with a strong used-market following and reputation for quality, speed, and value.
