Passport 47
Description
The Passport 47 is a classic bluewater cruiser designed by renowned naval architect Robert Perry (an evolution in his Passport series, offering refined performance, balance, and offshore seaworthiness with a focus on comfortable motion and speed) and built by Passport Yachts Inc. (primarily in Taiwan) from 1983 onward (early models in the mid-1980s, with some later examples or variants into the 1990s). It features fiberglass construction (often solid laminate below the waterline with possible core above), a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for excellent tracking, protection, and control, a cutter rig for versatile heavy-weather options (including staysail), and high-quality teak interiors with spacious, practical layouts (aft cockpit standard, with center cockpit variants in related models like the 470; emphasizing secure cockpit, good headroom, storage, and liveaboard suitability). The design is praised for its sea-kindly hull, stiff yet nimble handling, and proven capability for extended passages; production was limited (estimates around 10–14 hulls for the original aft-cockpit version, with additional semi-custom or later 470-series variants extending the lineage), now long out of production but with examples still actively cruised and listed for sale as highly regarded Perry classics.
