PASSPORT 40
Description
The Passport 40 is a renowned bluewater cruiser designed by Robert Perry (a highly influential naval architect known for balanced, seaworthy designs like the Valiant 40) and built by Passport Yachts Inc. in Taiwan from 1980 to 1991. It features solid fiberglass construction, a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for excellent tracking and protection, a masthead sloop rig, and luxurious teak interiors (often with multiple layout options emphasizing storage, comfort, and offshore liveaboard suitability, including a secure cockpit, U-shaped galley, and private cabins). The boat is celebrated for its sea-kindly motion, good turn of speed, beautiful balance (preserving crew energy on long passages), and high build quality; production totaled 148 hulls (a relatively short but respected run), now long out of production but with a strong owner community (e.g., Passport 40 sailing owners group) and many examples still actively cruising worldwide after extensive voyages.
