Hunter Passage 42 (1996)

Hunter Passage 42 (1996)

Description

The Passage 42 (commonly known as the Hunter Passage 42 or Hunter 42 Passage CC) is a center-cockpit cruiser designed by the Hunter Design Team (conceptualized under Warren Luhrs' direction) and built by Hunter Marine (USA) from 1989 to 1997 (with 1996 examples falling in the later production years). It features fiberglass construction, a B&R (swept-back spreader) masthead sloop rig, a wing keel for shallow draft and stability, a large balanced spade rudder, and a voluminous interior prioritizing liveaboard comfort (with 6'6" headroom, wide 14 ft beam, fore and aft private cabins with en-suite heads/showers, U-shaped galley, convertible salon, and wraparound windows for light/air). The design blends easy shorthanded handling (roller furling genoa, in-mast furling options on some, arch-mounted mainsheet) with surprising performance for its displacement, making it popular for extended coastal or bluewater cruising; production totaled an estimated 100–150 hulls (exact figures not publicly detailed), now long out of production but still sought-after on the used market for its spacious layout and solid build.
