Pacific Seacraft 40 (Voyagemaker)

Pacific Seacraft 40 (Voyagemaker)

Description

The Pacific Seacraft 40 Voyagemaker (commonly called the Pacific Seacraft 40) is a highly regarded American bluewater cruiser designed by legendary naval architect W.I.B. "Bill" Crealock and built by Pacific Seacraft (originally in California, later relocated to North Carolina) starting in 1997 (with some sources noting production from 1996 onward). It succeeded models like the Pacific Seacraft 37 and 44 in the Crealock-designed line, incorporating refinements for improved performance, safety, and handling while maintaining the brand's signature traditional offshore aesthetic. Production continues in limited numbers as a premium semi-custom yacht (exact total hull count not publicly detailed but in the dozens to low hundreds, given the company's scale and focus on quality over volume), featuring robust hand-laid fiberglass construction, a split underbody with a ventral fin between keel and large skeg-hung rudder for excellent tracking and protection, canoe stern, moderate-to-heavy displacement for comfortable motion in heavy seas, spacious and well-finished interior (typically 2 cabins, full galley, nav station, enclosed head with shower, and berths for 4–6), and a cutter rig optimized for offshore versatility, short-handed sailing, and strong all-around performance—earning praise as a capable "go-anywhere" ocean cruiser with proven passages and circumnavigations.
